18:53 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Oct. 24.

At least 5,000 people will participate in Alpaca Moda 2016 fashion fair started on Monday afternoon in Peru's Southern Arequipa city.

Such fair will see the presence of important fashion houses such as Versace, Prada and many others, as well as 80 companies exporting alpaca-fiber and finished products.

Set to take place on October 24-28 at Cerro Juli Convention Center, such exhibit will gather businesspeople engaged in the sector.

Held during Alpaca Week, the event features academic activities, business rounds, fashion and trade shows.

Likewise, business rounds will host over 80 alpaca-fiber exporting companies from Ayacucho, Cusco, Huancavelica, Junin, Lima, Puno and Arequipa regions, according to Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru).

In addition, PromPeru's Southern Macro Region Office Manager Ignacio Rivera stressed the presence of 62 international companies from 17 countries interested in acquiring alpaca-fiber and finished products.

During said rounds, international companies will interact with alpaca-fiber trading entities and close deals.

According to Rivera, business rounds might exceed US$20 million in transactions, well above the figure reached on the first edition (US$18 million).

It must be noted 26 Arequipa region-based alpaca-fiber exporting companies will also participate in the event.

Alpaca Moda seeks to invigorate the sector and position it on the international luxury garment markets.

Corresponding opening ceremony was held at Instituto del Sur auditorium, located in Arequipa's downtown.
