Peru's air transport industry is expected to expand between 10% and 15% —in terms of transported passengers— in 2016 due to greater demand for better prices and new destinations, Latam Peru Finance and Business Strategy Director Juan Pablo Olivares projected.
"We estimate Peru's air industry will increase between 10% and 15% in 2016. Latam will see the same proportion," Olivares underlined.
A total of 10,012,906 passengers were transported by 20 airlines in 2015.
LAN Peru —currently Latam— carried 62% of travelers, followed by Peruvian Airlines (13%), Taca Peru (13%), Star Peru (6%) and LC Peru (5%).
In this sense, expanding airport infrastructure over the next five years is the challenge for Peru, especially in the cases of Lima-based Jorge Chavez and Cusco's Velasco Astete Airports.
Finally, he mentioned structurally-low tariffs must still be promoted in the short-them. This way, more passengers will be able to take trips at affordable prices.
