Peru Agriculture Min: Sector expanded by 3.1% over last four years

The farming sector expanded by a 3.1% annual average in the period comprised between 2011 and 2014, Agriculture Minister Juan Manuel Benites affirmed.

The government official went on to add agro-exports led to deals worth over S/.4.868 billion (about US$1.453 billion) in the 2011-2015 period.

Remarks were during his presentation at the Congress Plenary session to support the 2016 Public Sector Budget proposal amounting to S/.138.4 billion (about US$41.34 billion).

In this framework, he mentioned the South American country has consolidated as the world's largest asparagus, quinoa, maca producer and exporter. It is ranked third in Hass avocado and artichokes exports.

Benites also mentioned Peru belongs to the top 10 food-supplying nations in the planet thanks to trade openness and exportable supply promotion, as well as sanitary restrictions reduction.
