Aeropuertos del Perú (Adp) will invest about US$64 million to upgrade Jose Quiñonez Gonzales airport in Chiclayo, including improvements not only for passengers but for load service at the terminal.

Information was provided by AdP CEO Evans Avendaño, who claimed the airport is preparing to handle the expected increase in passengers, and decentralize cargo operations in the country.

Two investment projects will be implemented at this air terminal; the first one will be the refurbishment of runways, which amounts to nearly US$64 million.

“The complete rehabilitation of runways shall start late this year, and the other project involves the expansion of the terminal building, and totals between US$200 and US$350 million,” he stated.

The runway expansion will cover Air Force areas that have been granted to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC). “No expropriation will be required to expand the Chiclayo-based airport.”

Avedaño noted that airport operations will not be affected while the works take place.

The terminal will include a two-level building with 7 gates and a museum with an airport city concept; all this will enable passengers to experience premium products and will improve services in the refurbished facilities.
