In the framework of the “Vaccination Week in the Americas” to be held on Saturday 25 April, Junin regional authorities expect to immunize 50,000 children under the age of 5, who live in the provinces: Huancayo, Concepcion and Chupaca.

Representatives of Junin Regional Department of Health (Diresa) explained this campaign aims at closing the immunization gaps because statistics show a group of toddlers had not been vaccinated according to the corresponding immunization calendar.

Such Vaccinations intend to prevent children from getting diseases such as: Polio, hepatitis B, measles and rubella, among others.

Junin Digesa, the Mantaro Valley Health Unit and EsSalud (Peru's Social Health Insurance Institution) work jointly under the slogan "Refuerza tu poder, Vacúnate" or "Boost your power, get vax."

The institutions also seek to reduce the chances of contracting polio disease, which is under control in Peru. The last case was registered in 1991 in Pichanaki city. Diresa authorities have already asked parents to let their children get vaccinated.

The inoculations may lead to side effects, which can be kept under control at home, it was informed by Diresa.
