Puddles of rainwater were present in several districts of Peru's capital city of Lima early this morning, due to a persistent rain that fell since 2:00 AM.

Lima citizens currently enjoy summer season and are not used to rains. They merely know how to cope with Winter drizzles between June and September.

One of the most affected areas was that along Paseo de la Republica freeway, particularly on Ricardo Palma Bridge —between Miraflores and Surquillo districts— where rain caused a flood that disrupted the flow of traffic on the way to downtown Lima.

To that end, police officers closed the entrance to this expressway. Lima's water service authority, Sedapal, brought a pump to the place to suck out the puddle of water.

Other heavy rainfall-hit districts were Magdalena del Mar, San Miguel and San Martin de Porres. Downtown Lima and some Callao region zones were affected as well.

The corner of Escardo Ave. and Intisuyo St. in San Miguel district is another complicated area, due to the pool of standing water that obstructs the flow of neighbors and vehicles. The water has even damaged a business near this corner.

According to weather expert Abraham Levy, the heaviest rainfall was measured at 5:30 AM in San Isidro district (about 3 liters per square meter).

The never-ending rain made families get up earlier than usual to collect the water leaking through their roofs.
