Palestinian ambassador to Peru, Walid Abdel Rahim, expressed gratitude to the Peruvian government for its support to his country and for recalling its ambassador in Tel Aviv to protest the military operation in Gaza.

“On behalf of the Palestinian people and government, I want to express my gratitude for the support Palestine has received from Peruvians and President Ollanta Humala; I think this action condemns war crimes committed in Gaza,” Palestine's ambassador told Andina News Agency.

In this way, Peru joins governments of Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela and Bolivia in this diplomatic protest, showing its concern about the constant military operations since July 8, which have killed some 1,200 Palestinian civilians, mostly children and women.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of solidarity; this is a real movement in favor of peace, in support of civilians being murdered in Palestine. With this decision, Latina American countries show a clear trend in favor of dignity of every nation,” he added.

On July 29, Peruvian Foreign Ministry published a statement condemning Israel’s operation in Gaza announcing its government was going to recall its ambassador in Tel Aviv in consultation to protest the Israeli assault on the beleaguered strip.

On the other hand, Israel today expressed its disappointment with the decision of El Salvador, Peru and Chile to recall their ambassadors for consultations, according to a report by Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
