Peru's Migration agency has issued over 43,000 biometric passports nationwide through quick and simple procedures that ensure safe trips to anywhere in the world, the entity reported.

Between February 25th and July 7th, a total of 25,000 citizens applied for the said document at Lima-based Migration Agency headquarters.

A second batch, containing over 18,000 documents, was handed over starting July 8th.

"Following the over demand experienced once the national issuance-period kicked off, we have managed to make the biometric passport procedure quiet fluid for the benefit of users," national superintendent Boris Potozen stressed.

Citizens will be able to obtain these documents without making a prior appointment. They merely must pay a S/98.50 (about US$29.84) fee at Peruvian State-run Bank of the Nation.

Modern document

Peru's biometric passport relies on 88 security measures and a microchip containing holder’s biometric data and holograms, among others.

Such characteristics turn it into one of the world's most secure documents.

Last June, Peruvian e-passport claimed the Regional ID Document of the Year 2016 award at the High Security Printing Latin America event in Mexico.

It must be noted such passports are considered Latin America's most affordable documents.
