The Cajamarca Regional Chamber of Tourism (Caretur) estimates there will be more than 12,000 domestic and foreign tourists attending traditional Carnival festivities in Cajamarca from January 23 to February 10.

Caretur’s President Sergio Caceres Quispe explained that about 50% of hotel rooms have been booked so far and the other half is expected to be reserved over the next days.

This Carnival is one of Cajamarca’s most important, popular festivities, and gathers many national and international vacationers drawn by the boundless energy of locals and the colorful vibe of the party.

Most domestic visitors come from cities in northern Peru such as Chiclayo, Piura and Trujillo, as well as from Lima, the capital city. “This time, with the support of Caretur across the country, our target market will be tourists from the South,” Caceres pointed out.

The festivity is generating great expectation among the sectors’ businessmen, and holidaymakers are already been drawn to the city.

Caretur brings together hotel entrepreneurs, restaurants, travel agencies, ground and air transportation companies, artisans, agriculture industry, gastronomy, tourism consultants, among others.
