The Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Peru began the final deployment of 72 international experts and observers to accompany presidential run-off elections on Sunday, June 5th, OAS confirmed on Friday.

The Chief of Mission, former Uruguayan Foreign Affairs Minister Sergio Abreu, arrives in Lima on Wednesday.

Once in the country, he will hold high-level meetings with government and electoral authorities, political parties, civil society groups and diplomatic corps in the South American country.

On election day, mission members will witness the development of the process.

The EOM continues the work of observation that began last March for the general elections' first round on April 10th.

Following the event, the Mission presented a report with observations and recommendations on political-electoral financing, overseas voting, participation of women, indigenous and African descent people in the electoral process, as well as political communication.

This is the eighteenth Electoral Observation Mission deployed by the OAS to the nation.

On June 5th Peruvians will elect either, former First Lady and Congresswoman, Keiko Fujimori or, ex World Bank officer and Finance Minister, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski to the highest political office.
