So far, no Peruvian citizens have been reported among victims or casualties from the earthquake that hit central Italy early Wednesday, Consul General of Peru to Rome Jose Antonio Garcia Torres informed.

The diplomatic mission has been monitoring the situation since early hours, when the 6.2-magnitude quake struck the area, affecting mostly the province of Rieti, in Lazio.

Nevertheless, local authorities will announce the first official figures later today, once rescue operations have concluded.

Peruvians are encouraged to use the Peruvian Embassy’s official Facebook profile to report any incidence or if fellow citizens require aid and support.

“The site has received more than 47000 visits and has been shared 1147 times. Peruvians say they are really scared, but no casualties have been reported,” he said.
