Some 128,047 domestic and foreign visitors are forecast to flock to the Andean city of Arequipa, in southern Peru, as part of Independence Day celebrations, Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur) reported.
According to Alfredo Venero, head of the regional office, the number of tourists visiting Arequipa increases in July, especially domestic visitors who take advantage of half-term holidays and breaks.
The number of tourists expected for this month will be higher than that of the same month last year, that is 117,820 tourists.
According to projections released by the above-mentioned regional office, the White City, as Arequipa is known, expects to welcome 24,810 foreign and 103,237 domestic tourists this month.
The said figures could vary, as they have been estimated based on the data provided by accommodation businesses in the city; however, many visitors choose to stay with relatives and friends.
