16:22 Moderate quake jolts central Peru; no damage reported

Lima, Jul. 20 (ANDINA). An earthquake measuring four degrees on the Richter scale shook the town of Pozuzo in central Peru's Pasco region on Friday.

Peru’s Geophysical Institute (IGP) said the quake occurred at 07:15 local time and had an intensity of II on the Modified Mercalli scale.

The quake's epicenter was about 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) north-east of Pozuzo, with a depth of 20 kilometers (12 miles).

There are no reports of damage or injuries, according to Civil Defense authorities.

Peru is located on what geologists call the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area with intense seismic activity that produces around 85 percent of the world's quakes.
