An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale shook the southern Peruvian region of Moquegua early on Tuesday, Peru’s Geophysical Institute (IGP) reported.
The tremor struck 00:21 local time (05:21 GMT) and was unnoticed by the local population.
According to the IGP report, the quake’s epicenter was located at 67 kilometers (41.6 miles) south of Ilo city, at a depth of 27 kilometers (16.7 miles).
According to Civil Defense authorities, there have been no reports of damage or injury so far from the quake.
Peru lies in the so-called “Pacific Ring of Fire”, which is the site of 85 percent of global seismic activity caused by friction between shifting tectonic plates.
