An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck early Sunday the Peruvian southern region of Arequipa, Peru’s Geophysical Institute (IGP) reported.
The governmental institution said the tremor occurred at 04:32 local time (09:32 GMT) and was centered 19 kilometers (11.8 miles) southeast of Huambo town in Caylloma province.
The event was measured at a depth of 133 kilometers (82.6 miles) and went unnoticed by the local population.
According to Civil Defense and local authorities, there have been no reports of damage or injury so far from the quake.
Peru lies in the so-called “Pacific Ring of Fire”, which is the site of 85 percent of global seismic activity caused by friction between shifting tectonic plates.
