The Association of Transport Enterprises and Drivers in La Libertad (Coretralib) and Trujillo Mayor Elidio Espinoza met with Mexican businessmen to assess the acquisition of public transportation vehicles and to upgrade the city's vehicle fleet.

The northern city's municipality is getting ready to determine the type of vehicles required. Options include 9-meter and 12-meter buses (carrying up to 60 and 100 passengers each, respectively).

Pilot vehicles are slated to arrive within 60 days for users and transport industry leaders to evaluate them.

“We have not yet reached agreement on what type of vehicle drivers need, so we cannot determine the price, that is why we have decided to bring two pilot vehicles for transport industry businessmen to do it,” said Renato Zancanaro from Man Se-Latinoamerica.

On the other hand, Coretralib Chair Andres Sanchez Esquivel said it is very likely that an agreement will be reached with this Mexican firm; however, the type and quality of vehicles have to be assessed before taking any decision.

“We want to provide a better service to citizens; this is the second time we meet with entrepreneurs to change the city’s vehicle fleet as soon as possible,” he said.

The province of Trujillo needs some 800 vehicles to upgrade its fleet and an investment of S/300 million (about US$89.87 million) to fund the new units, maintenance and consulting services. A U.S. bank is expected to provide the financing.
