The Government of Bolivia has handed over businessman Martin Belaunde Lossio to Peru at the Desaguadero border crossing in Puno region, from where he is being taken to Lima and brought to justice.

Wearing a bulletproof vest and sporting a grown beard, a handcuffed Belaunde Lossio crossed the bridge on foot to get into Peru and then enter the local Migration Office.

His transfer took place shortly after 6:30 a.m. (Peruvian time) under heavy police deployment and was closely covered by Peruvian and Bolivian media.

The handing over was monitored by President Evo Morales himself, along with his Government Minister Carlos Romero.

The Peruvian side included Interior Minister Jose Luis Perez Guadalupe and the Anticorruption Prosecutor Joel Segura Alania.

Belaunde was captured on Thursday by Bolivian authorities in Beni, after he escaped from house arrest in La Paz late Sunday night.
