Manu National Park prepares for peak tourist season in May

Rangers at Manu National Park in southeastern Peru have been busy preparing for the start of the peak tourist season in May.

The National Service for State-Protected Natural Areas, or Sernanp, said park rangers and specialists recently participated in a training workshop aimed at improving services and logistics in the park, located in the departments of Cusco and Madre de Dios.

Participants also received training in research and monitoring of species like the giant otter as well as the process to impose sanctions on those who damage protected natural areas.

The Unesco World Heritage Site possesses a huge ecological wealth, with over 20,000 plant species, about 1,000 bird species, 140 species of amphibians, 160 of mammals and 50 species of snakes.
