The Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) said the temblor struck at 05:36 am (10:36 GMT) and had an intensity of II on the Modified Mercalli scale.
The quake's epicenter was about 33 kilometers (20.5 miles) south of Pisco, with a depth of 56 kilometers (34 miles).
No damage or injury has been reported so far from the quake, IGP said.
Peru is in the "Pacific Ring of Fire," which is the site of 85 percent of global seismic activity.
