A May 26 hearing will review the repatriation of US$15 million that Fujimori’s former advisor Vladimiro Montesinos amassed in Luxembourg, Peruvian anticorruption prosecutor Joel Segura confirmed on Tuesday.

“The date for the hearing, May 26, remains the same, and has been confirmed.  Vladimiro Montesinos will have a legal aid lawyer to ensure his right to defense,” the prosecutor told Andina news agency.

The hearing was initially scheduled for January; however, the Public Ministry found it advisable to notify Montesinos before that, so that he can exercise his right to defense.

The hearing will take place in the District Tribunal of Luxembourg, Judiciary City, Plateau du Saint-Esprit.

Montesinos accounts are located at BGL BNP Paribas, previously Banque Generale du Luxembourg, and total nearly US$15 million, including the opening balance plus interest earned.

According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, the former’s presidential advisor has few objections to the evidence provided.

Peruvian State's legal defense was assigned to a Luxembourg attorney, and the European country’s decision will determine the destination of such money, which is currently frozen.
