The Lord of Miracles museum opens its doors to the public in order to display masterpieces that depict devotion from Peruvians to the Christ of Pachacamilla.

Since today, the three-story museum -located at the Nazarenas church, home to the Lord of Miracles- will showcase paintings, sculptures, photographs, infographics and videos associated to the highly venerated image.

The religious exhibit will also feature a unique collection of decorations and emblems carried by the Lord of Miracles for over 300 years of tradition.

This is an initiative of the Monastery of the Discalced Carmelite Nazarene Nuns, who are in charge of the Lord of Miracles’ sanctuary and have kept alive the testimonies concerning this worship.

The museum will be open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00 local time throughout October, when Lima plays host to the 'Lord of Miracles.'

It is the main Catholic festivity in Peru and one of the largest processions around the world. The image attracts the largest number of South American devotees and dates back to colonial times when a black slave painted the image on the walls of a run-down property.

In spite of earthquakes and attempts to erase it, this miraculous image has remained intact.

Thousands of believers dressed in purple outfits sing and pray to accompany the image of the Saint in procession.

It is an ideal time to enjoy “turrón de Doña Pepa” (nougat) and delicious “picarones” (ring-shaped fritters).
