The second line of the Metro network in the Peruvian capital Lima will have 35 stations along its 35 kilometer-length, linking the city’s east district of Ate with the most western district of Callao within travel duration of 45 minutes.

Peru’s second-busiest rail system will benefit 2.4 million people and will span 13 districts, namely, Ate Vitarte, Santa Anita, San Luis, El Agustino, La Victoria, Breña, Cercado de Lima, San Miguel, La Perla, Bellavista, Carmen de la Legua and Callao.

The total funding is divided into three separate accounts which includes (1) the investment in the railroad infrastructure and supply of rolling stock funded at US$ 3.86 billion, (2) payment of expropriation, interference and other expenses estimated at US$ 490 million.

Meanwhile, the last item (3) will carry a US$ 1.23 billion investment over the next 18 years to help operate and maintain the 35-km-long railway infrastructure tunnel.

The second corridor is aimed at improving public transportation in the congested streets of Lima, home to about 9 million people. The metro line is the second to be built in the Peruvian capital, after a 21-kilometer metro line was opened in 2011.

The government run by President Ollanta Humala has awarded concessions for several infrastructure projects since taking office in 2011 as part of a strategy to close the country's infrastructure gap and support economic growth.
