Besco-Besalco, the winning bidder to build the Athletes' Village to accommodate competitors during the 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games, has vowed to complete the infrastructure venture in February 2019, on time for the sporting event.

The construction consortium emerged as the best choice to develop the project following a solid, transparent and fair process, Lima 2019 Pan American Games Organizing Committee (Copal) indicated.

In this sense, Copal Head Carlos Neuhaus assured the election took place "within an international process and mechanisms" in which bidding companies "were assessed in a technical and economic manner."

Neuhaus added public investment for the Village stands at S/313 million (about US$96.6 million); that is, S/300 million (about US$92.59 million) less than the original project.

It is worth noting the announcement came as part of a Peru-UK government-to-government agreement in which the United Kingdom committed to providing technical support for the delivery of the Games.

Athletes' Village

The Athletes' Village that will serve as home-away-from-home for over 9,000 athletes will be located in Lima's peripheral Villa el Salvador district.

The temporary residence will include 1,090 apartments distributed in seven 20-storey residential blocks, as well as recreation facilities. Each 3-bedroom apartment will house eight athletes.

Once the Games are over, the blocks are to be used as a housing development.
