The upcoming meeting between Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and United States counterpart Donald Trump will attract the interest and expectations of the whole region, foreign affairs analyst Oscar Vidarte affirmed.

The expert assured the presidential gathering will be indicative of the relation Washington D.C. is to forge with Latin America.

In this sense, he highlighted the Peruvian leader will be the first Latin American Head of State to meet with Mr. Trump since he took office on January 20.

"The results of this gathering will be paramount, as they can pave the way for future relations between the U.S. and Latin American countries," Vidarte told Andina news agency.

However, the Inca nation must also look out for any proposals that may affect Peruvian interests.

"That's where Peruvian diplomacy must draw upon its best strategies, tools and skills," the analyst said.

"The Kuczynski–Trump audience is relevant because it will reflect the dimension, importance and strength of our foreign policy. This is for the interests of both Peru and the region, which is looking forward to this visit," he added.

"We will be in the region's spotlight, both for the form and the substance; that is, how we are welcomed, treated, and what Trump's message for Peru is," he concluded.
