At least 70,000 foreign and domestic tourists are expected to arrive in Junin region as part of a promotional campaign to explore top tourist attractions across nine provinces and 123 districts, Regional Director of Foreign Trade and Tourism Michele Antignani said.

The most popular sites among domestic visitors are Mantaro Valley and the central highlands area.

"This year’s number of visitors is expected to exceed last year’s total of nearly 70,000. Arrangements have been made with regional authorities to provide the necessary comfort," she told Andina news agency.

Given the large number of visitors expected, coordination has been established with Peru's Transport and Communications Ministry (MTC) to monitor road transportation and improve the safety of principal roads.

Surrounded by a large reed forest, the amazing Paca Lagoon in Jauja province is a good bet for those attempting to take full advantage of the four-day break; holidaymakers can also enjoy adventure sports on Huaytapallana mountain.

Found in 1725, Santa Rosa de Ocopa Convent is another must-see destination in Junin.  The site houses an amazing art gallery, a library with almost 20,000 books and works carried out by Franciscans.
