Peru's renowned tenor Juan Diego Florez and Telefonica Chairman Cesar Alierta on Wednesday launched "Digital Symphony", a global initiative starting in Latin America that combines music and technology as education and social inclusion engines for the benefit of low-income children living in vulnerable areas.

Florez was appointed Telefonica's Worldwide Ambassador within the framework of such global project.

Thanks to the extensive experience of Telefonica and "Sinfonia por el Peru" (Symphony for Peru) —a system of children and youth orchestras that Florez created for kids and youngsters to achieve better ways of living together in society— the initiative will be able to set three lines of action in the next three years.

The first one has to do with the use of music as a playful method to introduce students and teachers into digital learning and STEAM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics).

The second one introduces music into the educational process, which will promote children's values, creativity and self-esteem.

Finally, the third aspect aims to provide musical training opportunities to children and youngsters that lack the financial resources to develop their musical career.

"Digital Symphony" seeks to offer educational opportunities to vulnerable children by promoting activities to raise social interest in classical music.
