U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry issued a Twitter statement on Peruvian national celebrations, held in every corner of the Andean nation today.

He wished “peace and prosperity” to all Peruvians in the years to come.

On December last year, Kerry visited Peru to attend the 20th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change at the Peruvian Army headquarters in Lima.

"I left your nation proud that our two peoples share a commitment to democracy, human rights, social inclusion, and press freedom," said Kerry in a press statement released by the U.S. Department of State.

At that time, he met with Peruvian President Ollanta Humala at the Government Palace, which was an occasion to highlight the economic progress of Peru in the region.

He also noted that economic opportunity and prosperity is being created in Peru and the United States.

"Nearly 1,000 Peruvians have pursued degrees in the United States through funding from the J. William Fulbright Fellowship Program. And our cooperation on environmental protection helps to preserve your incredible biodiversity and fight climate change across the globe," he stated.

In addition, the Embassy of the United States in Lima, Peru used its official Twitter account to recall the way Peruvian independence from Spain was proclaimed at the Main Square on July 28, 1821. The diplomatic mission used this medium to wish all Peruvians a happy Independence Day.
