Expo Agua 2016, the most important technology exhibition water and sanitation fair, opened on Wednesday with a ceremony chaired by Construction Deputy-Minister Gustavo Olivas and Peru's State-owned Water Utility (Sedapal) Head Rudecindo Vega.

"We face major challenges, not only in achieving water access, but also in preserving the environment," the Deputy-Minister said.

He went on to add Peru must seek the best solutions in every corner of the country.

"To this end, professionals and the industry require that technology be made available to the sanitation sector, and what better way to learn about it than at an event like this," he highlighted.

Recently declared a matter of national interest by the Peruvian government, the fair serves as platform to present solutions to the water shortage generated by climate change. Such measures are aimed at wastewater treatment, seawater desalination, among others.

Event agenda includes 100 lectures and 30 key-note conferences featuring guest experts from 17 countries, such as Spain, France, Germany, Canada, among others.

Expo Agua is possible thanks to the cooperation of Technical Agency for the Management of Sanitation Services (OTASS), as well as other institutions.

The event runs from October 19 to 21 at Jockey Club Center in Lima's Santiago de Surco district.
