Peruvian President Ollanta Humala today said Peru's principal contribution to the global sustainable development agenda is its social inclusion strategy Incluir para Crecer (Include to Grow), as it has managed to reduce poverty levels and made strides in the fight against hunger and malnutrition.

Mr. Humala stressed how import it is for his government to integrate millions of Peruvians into the national economy through a series of inclusive policies, as he opened the 2015 IMF/WB Annual Meetings plenary session.

“This new vision of Include to Grow is our contribution to the global agenda, which usually focuses on growth, but not on inclusion; although we know that both of them can be part of a virtuous circle that can lead us to meet the Millennium Goals within the allocated period of time,” he affirmed.

Before representatives from 188 countries, gathered at the Lima Convention Center, the Peruvian leader was pleased to welcome participants and expressed his satisfaction for the designation of Lima as host city for the 2015 Annual Meetings, which returned to Latin America after 48 years.

The meetings take place at a special moment for the country, as the international community sees Peru as a strong economy with coherent, systematic and inclusive policies, which have led to a three-fold increase of its real gross domestic product (GDP).

Such policies, he continued, resulted in the reduction of public debt, a level of risk below the regional average, and the promotion of public and private investment, among other results.
