Thriving middle class will become one of Peruvian economy’s growth engines over the next years; thus, it will be the State's job to consolidate the achievement based on having set households free from poverty, Mission Chief for Peru at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Ana Maria Corbacho affirmed.

According to the officer, an improvement in the reduction of income inequality gaps, as well as in the amount of people and households joining the middle class were registered.

"and therefore these households are participating  in economic activity, in employment and productivity without the need to rely on government assistance, but are instead becoming part of that thriving middle class, which will become a growth engine," the IMF officer told Andina news agency.

In that sense, she indicated that Peru's challenge is to consolidate the said achievement and to boost that those households, which "are receiving that focalized assistance, are able to remain in that segment.”

"Progress has been visible, growth agenda has walked hand in hand with a social inclusion agenda. It is proven by the poverty rate decline,” she added.
