Peru is well-positioned to tackle world economic deceleration, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde affirmed.

According to the IMF officer, the position has been achieved thanks to reforms courageously implemented by the administration led by President Ollanta Humala on education, social protection and the creation of stimulus packages.

According to Lagarde, the impulse must remain in place. From the financial point of view, Peru is "well-positioned" to face a difficult economic situation for every country.

Remarks were made after holding a meeting with President Ollanta Humala and World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim at the Lima Government Palace’s Golden Hall last night.

Likewise, Lagarde underlined the progresses made by Peru in reducing poverty, the rise of a middle class, as well as its financial performance described as one of the best in Latin America.

She also highlighted the fact that the Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the WBG /IMF return to Latin America after 48 years. The event gathers over 12,000 attendees.

According to her, the said gathering serves as framework for the world's delegations to arrive in Lima with the aim of discussing, sharing, better understanding and familiarizing themselves with Peruvian and global economy in general.
