Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Jorge Canales-Kriljenko pointed out that economic stability is important and is even more noticeable after having had a hyperinflationary experience such as that of Peru, which caused serious pain.
The Peruvian staff from the IMF shared their experiences and work conducted while working at the institution through a video created by the organization.
Canales-Kriljenko commented that economic stability is important, because he has experienced the Peruvian hyperinflation and saw the pain that it caused in the country.
“In my work as an economist, I try hard to help avoid this type of crisis,” the IMF analyst said.
He said that throughout their advice they try to help country authorities make their best possible policy decisions, which affect millions of people.
Stable Environment
Deputy Director at the IMF Monetary and Capital Markets Department Miguel Savastano said that working for almost 25 years has taught him that countries only can develop and progress if they maintain macro-economic stability.
He also indicated that by helping countries maintain macro-economic stability they are helping the citizens of those countries to get better jobs, better education and better prospects in their lives.
Alternate Executive Director Oscar Hendrick noted the new IMF focus on income inequality and poverty reduction as a very important element to contribute to growth.
