Peru’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have considerable presence in ConnectAmericas, the First Social Network for Businesses in the Americas, created at initiative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

“Peru ranks fourth among the countries with the highest activity on the ConnectAmericas site, with about 860 businessmen and, if the current proportion is maintained, around 4,000 Peruvian companies will be registered by March, 2016,” IDB projected.

According to Francisco Estrazulas, Consultant at the Trade and Investment Unit of the Integration and Trade Sector of the IDB, the advantage of ConnectAmericas goes beyond a space to support interactions among companies.

“It’s not only useful to find potential clients or suppliers, but also to provide information and learning tools. A whole platform designed to facilitate transactions,” it added.

The network does not pursue commercial purposes, but helps other SMEs go international.

“We are convinced this network has a direct impact on our economies and that SMEs improve the quality of work in our countries,” he stated.

After a year of its launch, the platform has managed to group SMEs from about 60 sectors including, among others, tourism, health and software.

ConnectAmericas is supported by Google, DHL, Visa and Alibaba.com, who have partnered with the IDB to support the creation of this innovative platform.
