Over the last decade Peru’s growth performance has been more similar to that of Asian nations than Latin America, and the government knows what to do to cope with another external crisis, Inter-American Development Bank President Luis Alberto Moreno said on Thursday.

“The efforts over the period are a gain for all Peruvians. There are reasons to celebrate,” he said at the conference jointly held with Peru Economy and Finance Minister Alonso Segura.

On the Right Path

One of Peru’s advantages in this unfavorable international scenario is that the government knows what to do to deal with this situation.

“Peru is one of the best managed and strongest performing economies,” Minister Segura said as he referred to the economic forecast prepared by the World Bank.

“It notes that Peru is capable to face the economic slowdown unlike other countries,” said the government official.

Nevertheless, he recognized there are risks looming on the horizon, such as those affecting several countries in the region.

Moreno went on to add the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has released a book describing Peru’s economic success, which highlights the country’s achievements.
