17:15 Humala's visit to Japan, Korea to boost trade with Asia

Lima, May 05 (ANDINA). President Ollanta Humala Tasso's trip to Japan and South Korea will be crucial to boost trade with Asia, as Peru has trade agreements with several countries on that continent, Peru's Trade Society ComexPeru said Saturday.
The general manager of the Foreign Trade Society of Peru (ComexPeru), Eduardo Ferreyros, described this trip as a very good sign for investment and trade relations with Asia.

"There is evidence of successful policies aimed at promoting trade relations and now we have the opportunity to integrate with Asia, which is the most important market for us," he said.

In this regard, he noted the fact that President Humala had decided to visit Asia to strengthen business relations with that region. "Taken into account that we have trade agreements with those countries which have recently came into effect," he said.

He recalled that Peru has a free trade agreement with South Korea since August 1, 2011 and an Economic Partnership Agreement with Japan, effective from March 1.

"We are on the right track and the president's tour to these countries is a very good sign, and we should expand this presidential diplomacy in the short term to other major markets such as India," said Ferreyros.
