Hotel investment projects in Peru are expected to total US$161 million this year with the construction of 11 new hotels with a total capacity of up to 1,242 rooms, Hotel Association of Peru (SHP) General Manager Tibisay Monsalve informed.

Four out of the 11 announced projects have started operations and good part of the construction of the remaining seven has already been done.

“This is a very promising scenario for the hotel investment sector, taking into consideration that Lima had no hotels opened last year, unlike provinces, where this did occur, but just at local brands,” she said.

According to a study carried out by the business association, last year’s hotel investment projects amounted to US$61 million totaling 490 rooms.

SHP Consultant Gianfranco Aliaga pointed out that the estimated growth for this year is due, among other things, to the fact that hotel chains have underpinned corporate clients, that is, those who undertake business visits to the country.

“We are talking about those businessmen interested in investing, who also require a standardized and adequate accommodation for their stay,” he stated after saying hotel chains have decided to settle in places where there are not acceptable hotel accommodations.

Peru will host a bunch of important international hotels, which is why high end hotels with the necessary number of rooms are required.
