The second edition of Arequipa's Hay Festival kicks off today amid high expectations from the Southern Peruvian region's inhabitants.

Hay is a cultural gathering accessible for everyone to celebrate arts and science throughout inclusive events featuring artists.

Literature, visual arts, cinema, music, geopolitics, journalism get together with dialogue and celebration.

The program includes speeches, workshops, concerts and lectures with international experts in the fields of literature, visual arts, science, environment, cinema, music, human rights, journalism, etc. It also generates a space for the best cultural and scientific productions, as well as a privileged scene for dialogue, critical thinking and ideas exchange.

On this occasion, Arequipa will gather over 100 guests from 15 countries thru Sunday 11.

Peruvian writers Alfredo Bryce Echenique, Alonso Cueto, Fernando Ampuero, among others, will be present. Other international guests include Nobel Peace Prize winner Jody Williams (USA) and The New Yorker journalist Jon Lee Anderson.

The Hay Festival started in a major metropolis of Wales in 1988. It convened Nobel laureates, intellectuals and renowned personalities.

Since the 1990s, this event takes place in different locations across the world.

Colombia, Mexico and Peru have been the only Latin American countries to have hosted this meeting.
