A series of measures are being taken to prevent Zika virus from affecting Peruvian citizens and foreign tourists, and the country has "not reported any native Zika virus cases" to date, the Health, as well as Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministries affirmed on Thursday.

In a statement, the said entities assured Peru is well-prepared to tackle the threat of a potential outbreak by reinforcing prevention, control and surveillance measures nationwide.

As is known, a first "imported case" has been recently confirmed on Peruvian soil linked to a Venezuelan patient, who arrived from overseas.

In order to ensure tranquility, both State portfolios —along with the private sector— joined efforts to develop accurate and permanent actions nationwide.

The said virus epidemic has been reported in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile (Easter Island), Venezuela, Surinam, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico and Panama, among others.
