Ghezzi: Tax incentive to duplicate investment in technological innovation by 2016

Production Minister, Piero Ghezzi, affirmed today the tax incentive, recently approved for Peru's technological innovation, will allow to double the investments in scientific research by the end of the current administration (2016).

Currently in the nation, investment in technological innovation is 0.12% of GDP. However, it is expected to reach 0.24% by July 2016.

"This 0.12% GDP-level should be doubled by the end of this government, and should reach the Bicentennial year [2021] at 1%," he declared to Andina news agency.

It should be noted the Congress’ Permanent Commission approved a bill intended to promote innovation, scientific research and technological development in Peru.

According to the project, enterprises could deduct, from the income tax, by up to 175% their expenses carried out on projects related to scientific research, technological development and technological innovation.

As well, he indicated the innovation projects will be evaluated according to the Frascati Manual, which is an updated model of definitions, research and development activities accepted by scientists across the world. 

"Innovation does not only mean buying computer. Innovation goes beyond that. It is the tool that allows employees to be more productive and, therefore, to raise the enterprise's productivity, which is the most important thing in the long term,” he stressed out.

In addition, he believed the approved law will lead create to a list of innovative enterprises.
