On Sunday 11 December the French Embassy in Peru will recognize the winners of Javier Perez de Cuellar human rights prize as part of the Human Rights Day celebration.

The ceremony will take place at 9:45 AM at the embassy’s headquarters in Lima's San Isidro district in the presence of French Ambassador Fabrice Mauriès and former Justice Minister of France Christiane Taubira, who is currently paying a visit to Peru.

The prize was named Javier Perez de Cuellar as a tribute to the Peruvian ambassador’s exemplary career.

Set up in 2012, the award highlights the best activities and projects that promote dissemination, defense and protection of human rights in the country, in the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948.

This fifth edition includes a renowned jury comprised of French Ambassador Fabrice Mauriès, German Ambassador Jörg Ranau, Unesco representative in Peru Magaly Robalino; and Peru’s first Deputy Ombudsman Jose Elice.

The judging group is also made up of Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Coordinator Jorge Bracamonte, journalist Gustavo Gorriti, as well as Cecilia Olea, “Flora Tristan” Center for Peruvian Women President.

The ceremony will follow the 5K Run for Human Rights held by Peruvian Ombudsman’s Office.
