France sees Peru as a country committed to climate and to the next United Nations conference on climate change (COP21) to take place in Paris, said French Ambassador to Lima Fabrice Maurice as he noted the role of Peru in the COP presidency last year.

The measures adopted to preserve its natural wealth and biodiversity, as well as its pledge of US$6 million to the Green Climate Fund are clear signs of Peru’s commitment to fighting against climate change.

“Peru’s financial contribution to the Green Climate Fund is consistent with its capacities; in fact, there are other measures the country has taken to address climate change, which proves Peru’s commitment in this field,” he told Andina news agency.

The French diplomat said the role of Peru’s Environment Minister Manuel Pulgar-Vidal as President of COP has been extraordinary, as well as his support to the incoming presidency, which falls to France’ top diplomat Laurent Fabius.

To the Ambassador, Peru’s contribution was greater that it seems, and the relationship between the two COP Presidents, the outgoing and incoming one, was one of full cooperation, which gives Paris climate summit a significant advantage to succeed.
