Executive Director of American Chamber of Commerce of Peru (AmCham Peru) Aldo R. Defilippi said foreign companies are looking for investment opportunities in Peru, mainly in infrastructure, as the Andean nation is better prepared than its peers in the region.

“I think expectation increases as the new administration comes into power. The country’s needs are such that there is no doubt many will be interested in investment opportunities, not only foreign but also domestic firms, or foreign and domestic financing partnerships,” he was quoted as saying by Andina news agency.

Peru is quite fortunate, because it is difficult to name only one sector that grabs foreign and national investors’ attention, due to the urgent infrastructure needs of the country to continue growing.

“In the case of infrastructure, there are lots of opportunities available, not only in roads, airports, ports, telecommunications, energy, but in other sectors like agro-industry and mining; I believe there are plenty of opportunities,” he affirmed.

In this sense, he welcomed the announcement of incoming Finance Minister Alfredo Thorne to propose a number of measures to the Congress seeking to unblock infrastructure investment projects worth US$25 billion.

“That would be great; I think this should be one of the next administration’s principal goals. There is no doubt this is not only an attempt, but a firm commitment to unblock investment projects,” he indicated.

Defilippi went on to highlight Peru’s position in the region, and its potential to draw capitals as a Pacific Alliance member.

“Nowadays, the Pacific Alliance arouses great expectation, and the truth is that Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Chile are more attractive than their neighbors; and I think Peru can stand out, even among the Pacific Alliance economies,” he added.
