Peruvian swimmers Pamela Sotomayor and Claudia Brunner have won the first gold medals at the Special Olympics: World Games 2015 currently held in Los Angeles (United States).

Brunner obtained a time of 1:59.98 in the 100m Backstroke event, while Sotomayor also put her best performance on display in the 50m Breaststroke event to claim a gold medal.

It should be noted the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics World Games was held last Saturday at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the headquarters of the Olympic Games and Super Bowl's previous edition. 
The ceremony gathered over 6,000 athletes from 164 countries.
