The infrastructure and logistics are underway to organize the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to be held this October in Lima, Peru’s Finance Minister Alonso Segura affirmed today.
The Head of the Finance Ministry held a work meeting with the Managing Director of the IMF, Christine Lagarde, in Washington D.C. today.
Both addressed topics concerning the organization of the event and the regional economy.
“We have told [the IMF] everything is underway in accordance with the program, and [we have informed] the logistics and the whole organization are moving forward. Thus, we expect to host very successful annual meetings in October,” he told Andina news agency.
Also, the Minister indicated affairs concerning Latin American economy were addressed taking into consideration the outlook is “not the best,” since the IMF has just lowered its projections for economic growth.
According to the IMF, Peru's economy will expand by 3.8% in 2015, being the third most dynamic economy in the region after Bolivia and Paraguay.
“We also talked about Peru, which projections [issued by the IMF] are slightly in line with our report, for we expect our economy to continue recovering throughout the year,” he expressed.
Segura indicated the meeting took place in a "cordial atmosphere."
Conference tomorrow
Minister Segura arrived this morning in Washington D.C. to participate in the 2015 Annual and Spring Meetings of the IMF and the WBG.
On Thursday, the head of the Finance Ministry will hold a press conference to spread information about the progress made in Peru on the organization of the Annual Meetings of the Board of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund.
