Peruvian economy will expand above 3.5% over the fourth quarter of the year mainly driven by primary sectors such mining and fisheries, Peru’s Economy and Finance Minister Alonso Segura estimated.

The performance would set a constant three-month GDP recovery, the official added.

"GDP has been accelerating since the beginning of the year. I estimate Peru should be growing by over 3.5% throughout the last three month-period of the year," he expressed while addressing the Congress Budget Committee.

Likewise, the official underlined the results obtained from Peru's Central Reserve Bank-issued Macroeconomic Survey, which confirmed business confidence recovery last October.

“We know Latin America and Peru are going through a complicated situation, but we have to be a little bit more confident on our economy, which has shown recovery signs throughout the entire year,” Segura said.

Public investment

On the other hand, the Head of the Economy and Finance Ministry stressed the national government’s public investment has been growing at an annual rate above 18%.

"Investments by regional governments are already stabilizing, unlike local governments, but the last quarter [of the year] is essential," the Minister expressed.

“[...] thus, both levels will conclude recording positive figures,” he underlined.
