Peru's Economy and Finance Minister Alfredo Thorne on Friday affirmed the World Bank Group is interested in financing the reconstruction of northern disaster-torn areas, particularly regarding health, water and sanitation.

"I have talked to the WBG President and he has a high interest in supporting [Peru's] reconstruction," the government official told local RPP TV and radio station.

Minister Thorne thus commented on his meeting with WBG President Jim Yong Kim, held yesterday in Washington D.C., United States.

The dialogue also addressed the Inca nation's positive economic outlooks, the Economy-Finance Ministry revealed via Twitter.

In this sense, WBG projected Peruvian GDP will lead economic growth in the region this year.

Spring Meetings

The Finance head currently participates in the 2017 World Bank Group (WBG) – International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spring Meetings, held in the U.S. capital.

In this respect, Thorne noted both financial organizations, as well as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), agree with "the responsible economic reforms promoted by President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski's administration."

Contingent credit

It should be noted the multilateral institution on Thursday announced the activation of US$3-billion worth of contingent credit lines to this end.

From said sum, US$500 million are available through financial instruments.

Similarly, WBG operations advisor Boris Utria noted the multilateral institution is ready to restructure the Peruvian portfolio's active projects in order to provide financing and technical assistance rapidly.
