"Cafetea Peru" campaign of State-run Sierra y Selva Exportadora (Exporting Andes and Jungle) program is being promoted by Peru's Ministry of Environment (Minam).

Minam's head Elsa Galarza said the initiative seeks to increase Peruvian roasted coffee consumption nationwide.

As a sector, she continued, the aim is to manage Peru's diversity and spread its richness.

In a similar way, the campaign points to the same direction, thus providing support for coffee production in every region and bringing various aromas and flavors to the table.

"This is a great initiative for two reasons. First, it enhances our biodiversity, our different ecosystems —precisely where coffee is produced. Second, it adds value to small producers," she stated.

Galarza believes "Cafetea Peru" will entice Peruvians to explore and exploit their own coffee.

She tasted special coffee varieties from Cusco (Quillabamba) and Junin (Mazamari), where producers are strategic partners and supporters of the campaign.

Sierra y Selva Exportadora's Executive Chairman Alfonso Velasquez Tuesta said that sustainable and responsible handling of these beans will result in better incomes of 250,000 coffee-growing families.

In this sense, she indicated producers within 10 regions across the country were trained through Coffee Route early this year.
