Credit Suisse: Peru Mining sector 1.2 percentage points to July GDP

Mining remained Peruvian economy's strongest sector last July and contributed 1.2 percentage points to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Credit Suisse Investment Banking reported today.

Other sectors, such as services, trade and financial services jointly added 1.6 percentage points to GDP growth, Credit Suisse Economist appointed to Peru Juan Lorenzo affirmed.

GDP and mining

Peruvian economy increased (3.26%) in July boosted by dynamism of household consumption and the sustainable progress made in the mining sector.

The economic activity achieved a "record" by registering 72 consecutive months of growth, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported last week.

The mining and hydrocarbon sectors production recorded positive results for the fifth consecutive month, INEI Head Anibal Sanchez pointed out.
