The commercial and touristic activities are conducted normally in the Cabanaconde district, located in the Caylloma province (Arequipa region) after the 4.5 and 4.0 Richter scale magnitude earthquake hit on Sunday, informed Carlos Nacarino, the person in charge of the Decentralized Directorate of the National Institute of Civil Defense.

The official travelled to the area, on Sunday morning, to oversee the support provided to the town’s inhabitants.

The earthquakes led to, at least, 30 houses becoming uninhabitable and some other 40 affected.

Nacarino referred “despite the damages the situation has not led to greatest drawback,” which could have stopped the ordinary development of commercial and tourist-related activities in Cabanaconde.

Likewise, he confirmed "no people" were "wounded" or "seriously damaged." Only properties were affected, he reminded.

On the other hand, Romulo Tinta, mayor of the Caylloma province indicated to be waiting for the district Civil Defense Committees at the Colca Valley to issue their reports on the damages caused by earthquake in the last hours.

According to the Huambo district authorities, some 25 houses were initially reported as “damaged” by the earthquake registered on Saturday’s afternoon. The final report is being awaited,” the mayor said.
