Mobile traffic in Peru will grow eight-fold by 2020, mainly due to the large number of younger users in the country, among other factors, said Walter Sanchez, Cloud Business Development Manager at Cisco Latin America.

The executive explained four reasons contribute to such growth in the country.

In first place, he said, the number of mobile users will increase around the world, and in Peru the figure will climb from 19 million to 22.5 million through 2020.

“A widespread use of cell phones among younger users, even children, and older adults is observed,” he said.

To date, 50% of cell phones are not smart-phones, but such figure will decrease further to 20% in five years.

“This will speed up the implementation of Internet of Things. Devices will be interconnected among them using mobile data technologies,” he continued.

There will be more mobile connections as well, since the figure will climb from 34 million to 46 million in 2010.

Another reason is the mobile internet speed, which will grow from 1.5 Mbps to 4.9 Mbps on average and will enable users to download files more rapidly.

This figure does not exceed the current speed on desktop devices, but a 3MB song will be downloaded in seconds, he continued.

The mobile video consumption will increase from 53% to 75% in the same period. “Users watch more and more videos on social networks through their mobile phones,” he indicated.

Nowadays people share 290,000 million images through text messages, social networks or any web service.
